Our Health and Wellness are affected by the events that impact our lives. In today’s world we all need a place, a song, a friend, something that will give us calm inside. Our health is affected by all kinds of interruptions, some may even be positive. To find a place of stability inside ourselves can be tricky at times. When you feel you’ve got a plan, even for one day, the smallest thing can happen and you must rearrange everything.
I have found to take one day at a time, even one event at a time can help maintain that inner calm. To fear an interruption can cripple you to a state of being stuck. The interruption may even be a positive one, but even still it is something you did not plan on happening.I was once told a story of an art contest. The contestants were asked to paint a picture of a peaceful place. The majority of contestants painted landscapes and seafront pictures. However, one artist painted a furious storm over the ocean with the waves crashing into the rocks. On one rock ledge there was a nest with baby eagles huddled safely by their mother covering them from the storm. The eagle mother had made a strong fortress for her children with her experience of knowing storms do come unexpectedly. When asked by the Judges why he painted this scene the artist said, the Storm was all around the eagles, but the babies were calm, warm and protected. The mother eagle was calm and so were her children. The title of his painting was Calm in the Midst of the Storm. The interpretation of being peaceful impacted the Judges and he won the contest.
This story taught me no matter how horrific life can get if I have a place of calm inside that I have learned to use during those moments, my health and wellness will not be shaken. Even in the midst of a crowd you can lose your inner calm, your heart races, you become self-conscious, but know if you have a place to go inside you can keep your inner calm.
Our bodies need plenty of rest. Sleep is the time when your body restores itself. This down time is required to stay alert and have endurance for the day to follow. If I am having a hard time getting to sleep due to an interruption in my day, I go to that place, for me it is a song, and find inner calm to get to sleep.
So I hope you see the benefit of not allowing life to run you. You are in charge of your day. The events of the day seem to want to dictate to us what will happen. We are smart creatures and we have the power to make a choice to maintain an inner calm. Even if you feel totally alone in the crowd, know you are never alone, there are a lot of people doing the same thing as you.
